Homeschoolers Appreciation {day 6}

Today I'll be posting some downfalls to homeschooling.

{1} One downfall is not getting to interact with other kids on a daily basis. Some of us have siblings that we do school with, but my schooling is just me, sitting by myself, reading. I really miss getting to chat with a friend between classes, or sitting on the swings at recess and meeting someone new.

{2} Another downfall to homeschooling, is you're at home a lot. Don't get me wrong, being home is nice, but I've always been a "get outta the house every once in a while" kinda girl. I love going places, even if it's just going to the grocery store with Momma. :)

{3} People treat you differently. Not that that's always a bad thing, but it is when you're checking out at the grocery store and your cashier asks, "So, did they let you out of school early today?" You say, "No. I'm homeschooled," and then they make this face and kinda ignore you the rest of the time. That's quite frustrating. Most people have it in their heads that homeschoolers are dumb, nerdy, sheltered kids. When that's not even close to the truth! We're just kids who want to limit the world's influence on us. We would rather get a good education in the comfort and safety of our home. What's so weird about that?

Haha, I really can't think of any more downfalls to homeschooling. I just love it so much! It's such a blessing. :)

I enjoy reading all these posts about homeschooling. I wan't homeschooled and the first time I heard about homeschooling was when I started my blog. Homeschooling isn't a thing in Austria. I don't know anybody in person who is homeschooled.
But I think public school is different here. It isn't perfect, but I never had problems with peer pressure and such things...

I agree with everything you said. ESPECIALLY when people ask why you're out of school/where you go to school. Ugh. I hate being sterotyped. On top of being homeschooled, I'm also a pastor's daughter. I think some people automatically place me in the "weird" category. But I'm just as normal as anyone who goes to school! It really bugs me.
Sorry. I got a bit carried away :)

I used to "get out a lot", because I volunteered and such, but since I have a little brother with a terminal illness who is in and out of the hospital a lot, I don't get out as much. But any chance I get I try to get out, even if it's for a short walk around the block to clear my head! ;-)
I have seven younger siblings [on earth], plus all my friends are online, so the interaction thing isn't a big deal either. Heh.
Getting treated differently? Oh YEAH. Big time. Especially because I don't have plans for college, so its like "I'm homeschooled." "...oh. What about college?" "Well, I'm not planning on it right now." "....OH. I SEE." Yeah.

Blessings,

Very nice! I love being homeschooled! It is nice, we are in a homeschool group, and are going to be doing 4-H this year! I have never been that social and I never have wanted to just get out of the house! But I do know that I like being able to go somewhere during school hours ;)

I like it okay, but I would much rather go back to my old private school. I mean, that's where all my friends are. =) But homeschooling is definitely better than public school, in my opinion. =D

I definitely agree with number 3!!! I hate the stereotypes placed on homeschoolers. "Where do you go to school?" "I'm homeschooled." "Oh. Do you get socialized enough? How do you make friends?" uggh!! drives me nuts. Especially when people say, "Oh, wow, I couldn't stand being homeschooled." I dunno, just bugs me:). Great post Eldarwen!:)
