Burnt Brocolli

Have you ever had that experience where you're cooking in the kitchen and everything seems to go wrong? Well, I have. Like tonight for example. My mom bought some organic pancake mix for us girls to make sometime, so I thought we would eat that for dinner. Of course, I had to make mom and dad some potatoes, special soup, and another veggie, because they can't eat pancakes. I picked broccoli as the other veggie. Sounds simple enough, right? Wrong. When there's a blond in the kitchen, everything goes wrong. Trust me. First, I made the pancake mix too runny and I didn't realize it 'til I put some in the pan, so I went to dump what was in the pan into the trash (the pan was still hot) and a plastic bag stuck to the bottom of the pan and melted on it. *grr* I set the skillet in cold water and got another one. Then, I burnt one of the pancakes. After that, Narthea and I kept smelling this terrible burning smell, and we thought it was either another pancake, or the plastic on the bottom of the skillet in the sink. It was neither of them. It was the broccoli. Oh, have mercy! Not the broccoli!!! The horror!! I took the lid off and sure enough, the broccoli was burnt. Yuck, yuck, yuck. As I'm sure, most of you don't live off of broccoli, so you probably don't know how terrible burnt broccoli smells. Well, let me sum it up for you in one word: terrible. It fumed up the kitchen and, even with the windows open, the room was all groggy after that. Wow. Like I said, with a blond in the kitchen, everything goes wrong.

I HATE cooking, but I love baking and normally I'll mess up the recipe and everyone is like, "Mmm, this is delicious! What did you do to it?" Then, the next time I make sure to do it right and it's not as good as the time when I messed it up. Go figure.
I don't think tonight's "incident" really have anything to do with my natural ability to cook, I was just having a..... bad cooking experience, ya know? *wink*wink* ;)
Lame. Yeah. It was lame. Pathetic is a good word, too. But, ya know, I'm learning to make some really good veggies! Besides the burnt broccoli I made tonight. By the way, the only reason it burnt was because the water evaporated, because I had the burner on too high. One night my dad said, "Ya know, girls," talking to me and Narthea, "When you're older and married, your husband is going to be like, 'Okay, dear, what's for dinner? Hamburgers?' and you'll say, 'Sorry, I don't know how to cook a hamburger, but I can cook you up some mean broccoli!'". My dad. Goodness, that cracks me up everytime! Don't worry, I'm not that sheltered. I do know how to cook a hamburger. I'm better at cooking one of those than I am at cooking broccoli.
Well, I just thought I'd share that with ya. I hope it made you laugh, but I also hope it didn't make you think that I'm an idiot in the kitchen, because I most certainly am not... most of the time. :P
Bleah, our dear, sweet Tim didn't do so good this evening! *cries* Oh Tim! Why?! He might be going home tomorrow night. *blows nose* Oh Tim, please stay on for another week! Just hold on! Hold on! *keeps repeating as voice fades away* (lol :P) Well, Tim, if you do go home, I just want you to know that I am still a fan. *swoons*
Also, Bleah, yes, I saw 24 and oh my goodness I don't think I have ever anticipated the coming of Monday more in my life than I am right now!!!!! Terin, how could you betray your president??? How could you betray your lover???? Oh Terin, I would punch you right in the nose if I could! *grits teeth* Turn that bomb off..... or something!! You can't do this!!!! >:/

Oh, also, I finished Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Titan's Curse and The Battle Of the Labyrinth! I read The Battle Of the Labyrinth this afternoon in two hours!! It was sooo good! I stayed up 'til 1am last night, er, this morning (:P), finishing the last 15 chapters of The Titan's Curse. Sorry, mom! I couldn't put it down! :)

Oh girl!! You had me rolling! LOL!! My first cooking experience was when I was told to make some oatmeal. Mom said, "Three cups of oatmeal and six cups of water". No big deal right? HA!! I got my measurements switched around. SIX cups of oatmeal and THREE cups of water ::)! Thankfully, big sister came to my rescue (as she always does:). And the there was that time when my pie crusts turned out sooo hard that my big bro was making faces while trying to sink his teeth into 'the rock'. LOL!!

I don't think I have ever smelled burnt broccoli but I have smelled bad broccoli. L4J accidentally left her lunch box in the car and PEEEEEWWWWWW!!!! I sympathize with you Eldarwen!!

Hope you have a great night!
Moe

That was really funny!! I've had those bad experiences in the kitchen, too. A couple of weeks ago I was making cinnamon rolls and when I put them in the oven they kind of went everywhere and started smoking and stinking the house up. It was a big mess! Needless to say they went in the trash! ;) And you know what, I still don't know what I did wrong. Gosh!

Love and hugs,
Haley

Don't worry, I'm not good in the kitchen anytime! Except when I'm making pancakes:) I don't watch 24, but I know how it feels when you just want to punch a character in the nose, Frodo is the one that drives me crazy :( Poor Sam:(

They HAVE to turn the bomb off! If it explodes next episode they will have nothing to do for the next 10 hours! I have a feeling Terin will turn it off. And Dana's under cover for CTU. I'm still in denial about her. :P

Too funny! Stuff like that happens to me often! I've burnt several of our cookbooks on hot burners and melted quite a bit of plastic containers on the stove. :D
